Kristina Clonan was “gutted” to miss our Christmas Carnivals last year due to her Olympic program, but nothing was going to stop her this year.
She’s a world-class sprinter … but she was also a very classy endurance rider before that… and that makes her very, very dangerous to anyone in the women’s field... and spectacular to watch if you're in the crowd... and you should be in the crowd.
As an endurance rider she tasted success with the Australian team pursuit squad; a bronze at the World Championships in the scratchrace; and won our under-23 criterium national title ahead of Ruby Roseman-Gannon. Then, after missing selection for the Tokyo Olympic Games, she switched to track sprinting and the results are more than promising
The results came quickly, winning the elite women’s sprint, keirin and time trial at the National Championships in 2020, then backing up with all three again in 2021.
In 2022, she went under 33 seconds in a 500m time trial and … once again… swept her individual events to retain all three of national championships.
Then came gold in the time trial at the UCI Track Nations Cup in Milton… and again at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, breaking Anna Meares’ Commonwealth Games record in the process.
There was more to come. Silver at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow in the 500m time trial, then an Olympic Games debut at Paris 2024… plus a national record and a bronze medal for the team sprint at the UCI Track World Championships, riding with Alessia McCaig and Molly McGill.
She’s here to race. And with her power and speed coupled to experience in endurance events, you can expect something special.
She’ll be at Hobart Bikes and Spikes on the 27th of December, then Launceston on the 28th, Devonport on the 29th and Burnie on the 31st.
