The ‘fastest Oztag man on earth’ is coming!

Josh Azzopardi has been crowned  “the world’s fastest Oztag man.” Not his biggest accolade by a long shot, but one he cherishes.

OzTag is a non-contact sport played by males & females, and it’s probably no surprise that he’s the fastest we have. He is after all one of the fastest men on this continent... the planet even, and was just a fraction of a second away from qualifying for the 100m Olympic Final in Paris.

He’ll be back at the Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals this year for a showdown with two Tasmanian that will keep him honest.

It’s been a big year or so for Josh, having recovered from a  hamstring tear in late 2023 to make the 100m semi-finals at the 2023 World University Games in China.

He started 2024 in great form, beating Australia’s number one sprinter at the time, Rohan Browning and smashing his 100m PB two weeks later.

He also became the equal ninth fastest Australian in history.

In June Josh had a strong 100m win at the Oceania Championships over National champion Sebastian Sultana and Olympian Browning and in July he stepped out onto the track at the Paris Olympic Games.

“Representing my country and my family name was perhaps my biggest moment. It’s hard to explain that feeling. It fills you. It’s a bit of pride of course, but it’s more than that. It’s a dream that feels so perfect… and unreal…

He's the:

Current Oceania’s champion in the 100;

Current Australian and Oceania record holder in the 4x100m;

Paris Olympian 100m + 4x100m;

2022 commonwealth games representative; oh and

probably the fastest OzTag competitor of all time!

Josh will run in Burnie where he will likely cross paths with our own Olympian Jacob Despard, and the record setting Jack Hale.

It's worth seeing just how fast he can move... but even more thrilling will be seeing him take on our own Jacob Despard, who is in scintillating form!

They'll both run from the back in the gift, Despard in Hobart... Azzopardi in Devonport... them both of them going at it in Burnie. Do... not... miss... it!
