The Flying Burrito is coming!!!!

The movie Korey Boddington featured in, about Para-cyclists heading to the Paris Olympics was a flop here in Hobart and was cancelled in Launceston ... but only because no one knew about it!

It was brilliant. Not just good. Inspiring. Heart-wrenching AND heart-warming, The person with me was expecting to be bored out of their brain and didn’t want to be there. Minutes in, and they were laughing, smiling unknowingly, and I’m pretty sure I saw tears. I know I was choking some back.

It really is a pity you haven’t seen ‘Changing Track’, - unless you are one of the eight Tasmanians that did - because I have no chance of describing who this bloke is in the few lines I have here.

Anyway here goes.

At age 9 he had a run-in with a bullbar while chasing a ball across a road,  which left him busted up and needing a tracheostomy (among other things) that had him breathing through a tube for months when he was finally able to leave hospital.

So maybe you take up chess after something like that, right? Well, he’d probably be damn good at it. Even after the brain damage that resulted from an horrific crash, on the trailbike he chose to race instead of playing chess,  he managed two degrees...a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Commerce. There’s still a very powerful operating system inside that skull!

Considering that he actually died at the course and had to be revived... not to mention the mass of physical injuries that are visible, maybe this time he’d take it easy and choose something cruisy... safe... slow, deliberate.

Nah, back on a bike, but this time Korey became the motor. And a powerful motor that turned out to be. Most elite track cyclists would be pretty stoked with a 60-second kilometre. The Australian men's record is just under 59 seconds and the Women’s record is 70 seconds. Korey can hammer out a 100metres in 61 seconds. It would be freakish for most of us and truly unbelievable for a para-athlete!!

We are bloody lucky to have him here... and now that he’s the Australian Cyclist of the Year... we probably won’t be able to afford to have him here next year. So make sure you’re here to see him. The next time you get the chance, might be flying to the Olympics, or Comm Games....

So, normally we’d mention his pile of World Championship Gold Medals - four at this year's World’s alone - and his World Records... and other acknowledged feats, but when you meet this guy, you’ll know that the accolades are just the tip of an iceberg.

Make sure you bring your kids to see him... and tell them what he’s done despite unbelievable setbacks. They’ll be better humans for it.

Oh... and while I think of it, hit the contact button on our website and type “I’d see the movie if it was screened in Tassie” and I’ll twist the arm of the operators to get it back up. We probably only need about 50 emails to convince them.

Korey will be in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie. More to come. Watch out or subscribe for updates.
