Tori West – Sprinter, Heptathlete, Undefeated Boxer... to compete in Tas!
Carnival regular and North Queensland Sports Star of the Year Tori West is back for the Tasmanian Christmas Carnival Series.
The 2020 Australian Heptathlon Champion and 2024 Paris Olympian will be on show in Hobart on December 27th, Devonport on the 29th and Burnie in a field of exciting and diverse female sprinters at this year’s Carnivals.
A late starter as a dedicated athlete West, starting competing in the Heptathlon at 21 and even had a tilt at boxing, winning a QLD State title before retiring with a 4-0 win record.
Despite many believing that such a late start was unlikely to result in success at elite level she worked hard and established herself as one of Australia’s best athletes when she qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after competing in 4 heptathlons in 4 countries over 11 weeks, scoring 6235 & 6245 points within 5 weeks. A huge breakthrough score sequence in a heptathlon and the best performance by an Australian Woman in almost two decades.
“Crossing the line after an 800m PB in Germany at my last Olympic qualifying event was probably my most thrilling moment” Tori said. “I knew I had done absolutely everything I could to qualify despite what seemed like an impossible path to get there. I had to score 6180 points and place in the top 3 to qualify for the Olympics. I finished with 6235 points and 3rd place. The best feeling ever!”
She also confirmed her class finishing 8th in the
Combined Events World Series, the equivalent of a Diamond League for multi events.
West is just one of many past and recent Olympic representatives at this year’s Carnival Series in cycling and running along with an international class field of choppers.
West will be on show in Hobart on December 27th, Devonport on the 29th and Burnie on New Year's Eve in a field of exciting and diverse female sprinters at this year’s Carnivals.
